We saw the potential in this house and given how few houses there were on the market at the time, it was the best option available, even given all of the work that it needed. Check out the blog postings for the full before and after experience.

Since moving in, we have replaced the old brown gutters, added rain chains, replaced nearly of the old windows and given the whole house a brand new coat of paint. We still need to figure out what to do with the kitchen before we replace doors and the last of the windows.
Everyone has to have a hobby. When you work in IT, sometimes it is nice to mix it up a bit and do something that requires a different flavor of creativity and the use of different tools. This is our project house. We hope you enjoy our journey as much as we have been enjoying it.
Some of this old house, I absolutely love. I love the stone work on the car port and around the front door. I love the fire place. Most of all, I love the potential. The former owners were too cheep to pay skilled tradespeople to do work around the house. Many windows were broken. Others had been replaced with inferior vinyl. They were too cheep to replace the 4" gutters yet they put on a metal roof. You can't use 4" gutters with a metal roof. Science says so. Their choice in colors were all wrong too. The whole house, inside and out were painted the same blueish gray. The plumbing was the worst I've ever seen.
